THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 3

(Montpelier) 80TH ANNUAL MONTPELIER JAMBOREE | Downtown Montpelier

Four-day Labor Day weekend celebration, September 3–6, with carnival rides, contests, concerts, a parade, family activities and the Sunday Collin Raye concert. Theme: “Small Town USA.”

(Montpelier) FREE LABOR DAY WEEKEND CAMPING | Montpelier Speedway / Ickes RV Surplus Supply Inc. Campground, 700 S Jefferson St

Free camping is available Thursday through Monday for Labor Day weekend. Campers may begin setting up Thursday.

6:00 AM–9:00 AM (Montpelier) MONTPELIER JAMBOREE COMMITTEE BREAKFAST | Montpelier Fire Station

Biscuits & gravy, pancakes and sausage patties with coffee, milk or juice. Free-will donation.

Thursday carnival ride session runs from 5:00 PM until close during the 80th Annual Montpelier Jamboree.

Celebrate the Jamboree’s 80th year with an 80s-themed dance party. A $50 cash prize is offered for the best 80s costume.

Friday-night DJ entertainment at Montpelier American Legion Post 156 during Jamboree weekend.

Annual Jamboree 5K. Race-day registration begins at 7:30 AM; the run starts at 8:00 AM. Entry is $25.

9:00 AM–12:00 PM (Montpelier) CANCELED — MONTPELIER FARMERS MARKET | Gazebo Park, Jefferson & IN-18

The regular first-Saturday farmers market occurrence will not be held this weekend because of the Montpelier Jamboree.

10:00 AM (Montpelier) MONTPELIER JAMBOREE BABY CONTEST | Montpelier Jamboree Main Stage

Registration begins at 9:00 AM and the contest starts at 10:00 AM. $5 entry fee, with age groups 0–12 months, 13–24 months and 25–36 months. Healthy Beginnings will distribute free diapers and wipes while supplies last.

10:00 AM–8:00 PM (Montpelier) PAYNE SHOW CATTLE BARN OPEN | Payne Show Cattle, 7320 W 1000 S-90

High-quality Simmental, SimSolution, Angus and ChiAngus open females plus bred heifers. First come, first served; after the weekend, viewing is by appointment only.

Saturday carnival rides run noon–4:00 PM, then reopen at 5:00 PM until close.

Annual Jamboree parade. Lineup begins at 10:30 AM; Grand Marshal is Mayor Brad Neff and The Neff Family.

The Auxiliary’s baked steak sandwich meal begins immediately following the Jamboree parade and continues until sold out. Meal includes a baked steak sandwich, chips, cookie and bottled water for $12. No phone-in orders.

Labor Day racing event featuring the Ironman American Late Model Series, UMP Modifieds and Francis Engine Super Stocks. Public event window is 6:00–10:30 PM; pit gates open at 3:00 PM, grandstands at 4:00 PM, hot laps/qualifying at 6:00 PM and racing at 7:00 PM. Adults $25 general admission; children 12 and under free in general admission; pits $35; parking free.

Annual SAL golf outing. Check-in begins at 9:00 AM and tee-off is at 10:00 AM. $200 per team includes skins, lunch and drinks, with prizes and contests.

Second day of the barn-open weekend. High-quality show calves and bred heifers are available; after Sunday, viewing is by appointment only.

Free one-hour historical tour of downtown High Street led by Montpelier Historical Society’s Bryon Maddox. Walking and golf carts are welcome.

Sunday carnival rides begin at 3:00 PM. Buddy Night is Sunday only: buy one armband and the second is half off; both people must be present when purchasing.

Cornhole-board raffle drawing immediately before the Sunday concert. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5; winner need not be present.
